National ASA Restructuring
Saturday, October 1st, 2011For immediate release
The National African Students’ Association (National ASA) formally announced today its implementation of structural changes that will impact the organization. Previously, the organization was composed of five Regional Boards- Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West- that reported directly to the National Board. These regional boards are intended to create more opportunity for the National ASA to interact and collaborate with African student groups on various college campuses. At this time, the National ASA will be merging the Southwestern and Western regions into one Western Region to create opportunities for more relationships to form between the student groups in those states that have smaller African communities. Additionally, the organization has revamped its membership procedures to make the process easier and accommodate student member increase. Prior to this year, the membership process was driven almost entirely by the African student group itself and dues were paid according to the number of students active in the student group. Going forward, the National ASA has instituted a flat processing fee for all groups independent of size, updated its Chapter Petition documentation, and created an easy to use online registration form for individual students. The organization hopes that this process will make it more feasible for larger student groups to join and provides a greener, paperless approach to registration.
