Apply for Positions in the National ASA

The National African Students Association, LLC is an organization committed to excellence, professionalism, and devotion to the progress of the African continent.  We are determined to accept leaders into our organization who demonstrate the potential to be an asset to our organization and the African continent.  We are looking for young people who are diligent, tenacious, can communicate effectively, and work efficiently for the continued development of our organization.

To be considered for a leadership role, please complete the application form and other supplementary materials. Once information is received, we will contact you to let you know whether you will be having an interview to go to the next phase.

Applications are accepted until April 24th, 2010.

Please note: If you are currently not a student, you have the possibility of emailing us about being a part of the Advisory/Administrative board which is for post-graduates and professionals.  Email nationalboard@nationalasa.org for more information.

Qualifications:

  • Student must be in good academic standing.  We ask that applicants have a 3.0 GPA or above and if not, please explain this below.
  • Student should be an active member of their local African student group, if one exists, and have held some leadership role in some capacity in that, or another, student group on their campus.
  • To apply for the National Board, students must be juniors, seniors, or graduate students.  Currently, no board is open to freshman students, though we encourage freshmen to either become a delegate for their school or help in a smaller capacity for the National ASA.

Cover letter:

Outlining/summarizing your interest in the National ASA, level of participation in your local chapter as well as reasons for becoming involved with the National A.S.A through leadership.

  • Introduce yourself to the organization.
  • Please indicate what area you are interested in supporting the national organization (i.e., community outreach, membership intake, sponsorship, corporate development, professional and community development, finance, and marketing/public relations, webmaster).

Recommendations:

To apply for Regional Board positions, you will need to send in at least one recommendation, while applications for the National Board positions must come with two recommendations.

  • At least one of your recommendations must now come from a Faculty, Group Advisor, Staff, Co-worker, or Community Member/ Elder.  No recommendations from relatives. If this is a problem, please email us.
  • National Board applicants must also have a recommendation from an Executive Board Member or Advisor in their African Student Group.
  • Recommendations must demonstrate individual’s potential for leadership, dedication and commitment, diligence, and why they would be a positive contribution to the National ASA.

Tips for Successful Process:

  • Do not be intimidated  by the application process!
  • Check your email regularly in case we need some information from you or would like to schedule an interview.
  • Use spell check and grammar check on your application, as such things will count against you.
  • Give the email subject the appropriate title to ensure appropriate processing.
  • During the interview, be ready to answer standard interview questions and be knowledgeable about the organization.

How to Apply:

1.        Type in your name and email address at the top of this page. In the table below, rank the top three leadership positions in which you are interested, with “1″ being your first choice.  If you are not interested in a position, please leave that space blank. Please reference the constitution on www.nationalasa.org for the responsibilities of each role.

2.       In your resume, indicate the time commitment per week for your current extra-curriculars.

3.       Answer the questions in the application.

4.      Please email the application form, your cover letter,  resume,  and recommendations to nationalboard@nationalasa.org with the email subject “National ASA Leadership Application” by April 24th, 2010 at 11:59PM.  For recommendations, if needed, you can have them mailed to:
